Export Packaging Standards for Brass Components: A Complete Guide

February 10, 20256 min readPriya Mehta

Proper packaging is critical when exporting brass components to ensure they arrive at their destination in perfect condition. International shipments face challenges including humidity, salt air exposure during sea freight, and mechanical handling during transit.

Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) packaging is the industry standard for protecting brass components during shipping. VCI films and papers release invisible molecules that form a protective layer on metal surfaces, preventing oxidation and tarnishing without direct contact. This eliminates the need for messy oils or greases.

Packaging layers for export-grade brass shipments typically include: individual poly bags for small components, VCI paper wrapping for surface protection, corrugated inner boxes with dividers, and heavy-duty outer cartons or wooden pallets for container loading.

Compliance with ISPM-15 phytosanitary standards is mandatory for wooden packaging in international trade. Heat-treated or fumigation-free pallets stamped with the IPPC mark are required by most importing countries to prevent pest transmission.

Labeling requirements vary by destination but generally include part numbers, quantities, gross/net weights, country of origin marking, and any required certification marks (CE, RoHS). Barcoding and QR codes linking to material test certificates are increasingly expected by major OEM customers.

At BrassForge Industries, our dedicated packaging department handles all export requirements including documentation, customs compliance, and freight coordination to over 45 countries.
